Our Services

Louisa Broughton, an experienced veterinarian, has launched her own practice in Carterton, specializing in equine and feline care. As a dedicated horse vet, Louisa has expanded her services to include cats, driven by her passion for improving their welfare and reducing stress during vet visits.

Louisa’s love for cats is well-known, and her own three-legged cat, Tripod, was a testament to her dedication. Her practice offers flexible options, including house visits and consultations at her renovated “Cat Caravan”, with the onsite feline only hospital which includes all the full services you’d expect from a modern veterinary clinic. This includes xray, ultrasound, onsite bloods and surgical facilities / anaesthesia and hospitalisation. Just no dogs!

Equine Vet Services

We offer a comprehensive range of equine veterinary services, primarily delivered on an ambulatory basis at your own property. For procedures requiring specific facilities, such as lameness examinations, trot-ups, or dentistry, appointments are available at Panorama Equestrian in Gladstone. Our practice provides both first and second opinion consultations for all aspects of general equine health, including lameness, reproduction, and foal care. We also have a particular interest in and welcome donkey patients.

Our services include routine and advanced procedures such as in-house laboratory work, including fecal egg counts to support tailored worming programs. We provide routine dentistry, blood testing for health screening and specific conditions like Cushing’s disease, digutal xray and ultrasound for both reproductive and orthopedic evaluations.

Additionally, we perform joint injections or therapeutics and thorough pre-purchase examinations, with all necessary paperwork available on our website.

For emergencies, we provide 24/7 after-hours care; please call 027 599 0045 and leave a message for a prompt call back. Note that after-hours duties may occasionally be shared with another veterinarian, and our answerphone will provide the correct contact details if applicable.
